Recognizes an epitope within the N-terminal (NT) region of human Bax, otherwise known as Bcl-2-associated X protein, a pro-apoptotic protein and member of the Bcl-2 family, expressed in a variety of tissues. Bax is a known initiator of programmed cell death, which plays a vital role in the release of mitochondrial proteins such as cytochrome c and apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF), and is linked with the maintenance of essential calcium (Ca2+) stores within the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
