Specificity and Use
CD59 antibody was raised against human peripheral blood T cells.
Recognizes the human CD59 cell surface antigen, an 18-20kD GPI linked glycoprotein broadly expressed by human leucocytes and erythrocytes. Clone YTH53.1 has been shown to block the normal function of CD59. Removal of sodium azide is recommended prior to use in functional assays. XXX recommend the use of EQU003 for this purpose. CD59 is expressed by erythrocytes, and therefore staining in whole blood systems requires a higher concentration of antibody.
Flow Cytometry: Use 10 ul of the suggested working dilution to label 10^6 cells in 100 ul.

CD59 is a cell surface glycoprotein that regulates complement-mediated cell lysis, and it is involved in lymphocyte signal transduction. This protein is a potent inhibitor of the complement membrane attack complex, whereby it binds complement C8 and/or C9 during the assembly of this complex, thereby inhibiting the incorporation of multiple copies of C9 into the complex, which is necessary for osmolytic pore formation.
