Specifications

Description
Syndecan 1 (SDC1, CD138) is a cell surface heparin sulfate proteoglycan that links the cytoskeleton to the interstitial matrix. It mediates cell binding, cell signaling, cytoskeletal organization, and participates in cell proliferation and cell migration. It is also involved in internalization of the HIV-1 tat protein. Altered SDC1 expression has been detected in several cancers, including multiple myeloma. It is expressed in plasma cells, squamous epithelia of the esophagus and skin, placental trophoblasts, and a variety of epithelial cells including those of the prostate, GI tract and breast. Specificity
Recognizes a heparan sulfate rich membrane glycoprotein of 200kD known as Syndecan-1 (CD138). Syndecan functions as a receptor for collagen, fibronectin and thrombospondin. Stains all plasma cells and plasma cell lines. No staining of other leucocytes is seen in peripheral blood or bone marrow, although some ALL cell lines express the antigen weakly. Some staining of epithelial and endothelial cells may be seen in immunohistology.
Applications
  • IHC
  • IHC - Paraffin (1:100 - 1:500) & (10 µg/ml)
  • IHC - Frozen (1:100 - 1:500)
  • Immunofluorescence
  • Western blot
  • Flow Cytometry (1:1)
