Unlike the proliferative action of SPHK1, SPHK2 has been shown to possess anti-proliferative or pro-apoptotic action. SphK2 suppresses growth and enhances apoptosis, independent of activation of S1P receptors. Sequence analysis revealed that SphK2 contains a 9 amino acid motif similar to that present in Bcl2-homology domain 3 (BH3)- only proteins, a pro-apoptotic subgroup of the Bcl-2 family.
Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded human cancer tissue reacted with the primary antibody, which was peroxidase-conjugated to the secondary antibody, followed by AEC staining. This data demonstrates the use of this antibody for immunohistochemistry; clinical relevance has not been evaluated. BC = breast carcinoma; HC = hepatocarcinoma.
