Recognizes the HLA-B27 alloantigen. Reacts with the peripheral blood lymphocytes of 47/47 individuals conventionally typed as HLA-B27 + and precipitates cell surface molecules of 43 and 12 kD, corresponding to the HLA Class 1 heavy chain and beta 2 microglobulin. Affinity studies by Scatchard analysis showed that this has a higher affinity for HLA-B27 (9.7 x 108 M-1) than for HLA B7 (9.5 x 107 M-1). Regulatory subunit of phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K), a kinase that phosphorylates PtdIns(4,5)P2 (Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate) to generate phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate (PIP3). PIP3 plays a key role by recruiting PH domain-containing proteins to the membrane, including AKT1 and PDPK1, activating signaling cascades involved in cell growth, survival, proliferation, motility and morphology.
