NRSF / REST antibody was raised against gST fusion protein corresponding to residues 801-1097 of human REST (repressor element RE-1 silencing transcription factor). Also known as NRSF (neuronal restricted silencing factor).
Recognizes REST, Mr 120-200kD. Species cross-reactivity: Human, mouse and rat.
Suitable for use in Western Blot. Western Blot Analysis: 0.5-2 ug/ml of this lot detected REST in nuclear extracts from HeLa and Raji cells. HeLa nuclear extract was resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to nitrocellulose and probed with anti-REST (0.5 ug/ml). Proteins were visualized using a goat anti-rabbit secondary antibody conjugated to HRP and a chemiluminescence detection system. Arrow indicates REST.

Transcriptional repressor which binds neuron-restrictive silencer element (NRSE) and represses neuronal gene transcription in non-neuronal cells. Restricts the expression of neuronal genes by associating with two distinct corepressors, mSin3 and CoREST, which in turn recruit histone deacetylase to the promoters of REST-regulated genes.
