MAPT / Tau Antibody - Human Brain, Cortex: Formalin-Fixed, Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE)
MAPT / Tau Antibody - Standard immunostaining protocol (green), chicken antibody to alpha-internexin (red) and for DNA (blue). MAPT / TAU antibody stains the neuronal perikarya and process strongly, and does not stain non-neuronal cells in these cultures. The alpha-internexin antibody stains intermediate or 10nm filament bundles in the cytoplasm of these cells.
MAPT / Tau Antibody - Blots of crude rat brain extract stained with MAPT / TAU antibody, revealing, as expected, multiple bands in the range 48-67 kDa.

Specifications

Description
Tau proteins are microtubule-associated proteins transcribed from the MAPT gene. They promote microtubule assembly and stability, and might be involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal polarity. In Alzheimer’s disease, the neuronal cytoskeleton in the brain is progressively disrupted and replaced by tangles of paired helical filaments (PHF) and straight filaments, mainly composed of hyperphosphorylated forms of TAU. Abnormal quantities of Tau protein in neurons and sometimes astrocytes are also seen in progressive supranuclear palsy. In immunohistochemistry of normal tissue, Tau has positive cytoplasmic staining in the central nervous system, renal tubules and in peripheral nerves, with some expression in other tissues including skeletal muscle, kidney and breast. Immunogen
Our antibody was made against a recombinant construct expressed in and purified from E. coli and which corresponded to the shortest version of the various tau proteins, so the antibody is expected to bind to all tau isoforms.
Specificity
Clone 2E9 is known to react with tau from human, mouse and rat. Since tau is highly conserved, it is likely that the antibody is effective on other species also.
Applications
  • IHC
  • IHC - Paraffin (10 µg/ml)
  • ICC (1:1000)
  • Immunofluorescence (1:1000)
  • Western blot (1:10000)
Performing IHC? See our complete line of Immunohistochemistry Reagents including antigen retrieval solutions, blocking agents ABC Detection Kits and polymers, biotinylated secondary antibodies, substrates and more.
Usage
The antibody solution can be used at dilutions of at least 1:1000 in immunofluorescence experiments. In western blotting using chemiluminescence it can be used at dilutions of 1:10000 or lower.
