The human TPTE is a putative transmembrane tyrosine phosphatase of the PTEN group, and has been suggested to affect signal transduction pathways of the endocrine and/or the spermatogenetic function of the testis. Human TPTE exists in multiple copies and have been mapped to the pericentromeric region of human chromosomes 21 and 13, and to chromosomes 15, 22, and Y (pseudogene). The copy located on chromosome 21 comprises 24 exons and spans approximately 87 kb. TPTE is believed to be a single copy gene in mice, but three alternatively spliced isoforms of TPTE have been isolated.
