These proteins control the levels of zinc in cells, which is an essential ion for cells that plays a role in controlling the cellular processes of the cell, such as growth, development and differentiation. Originally isolated from breast carcinoma, high levels of LIV-1 have been associated with better outcomes for breast carcinoma patients.
