ANKRD3 belongs to the RIP subfamily of kinases. ANKRD3 encodes a deduced 784-amino acid protein with a calculated molecular mass of 86 kD. The protein contains 12 subdomains in the N-terminal region that are highly conserved in all protein kinases, 10 ankyrin-like repeats, and a potential nuclear localization signal. ANKRD3 shares 49% sequence similarity with DAP, but lacks the death domain and the calmodulin-binding domain. ANKRD3 interacts with PKC beta and delta and is likely to play a role in development. Two isoforms are produced by alternative splicing.
