ARHGAP6 is similar to the rhoGAP family of proteins which play a role in the regulation of actin polymerization at the plasma membrane of several cellular processes. Rho GTPase activating protein 6 is thought to have two independent functions, one as a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) with specificity for RhoA and another as a cytoskeletal protein that promotes actin remodeling. Rho GTPase activating protein 6 exists as five different splice variants through the use of alternatively spliced exons 1a, 1b, 11, and splicing of a cryptic splice donar site in exon 12.
