PTGER2 (Prostaglandin E Receptor EP2) is a member of the Prostanoid Receptor subfamily that functions to mediate the diverse biological effects of Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). PGE2 has been implicated in numerous processes, including immune response regulation, male erectile function, induction of labor, cervical cancer and tumorigenesis, control of blood pressure, asthma, and Alzheimer's Disease. PTG2 also plays a role in bone homeostasis via negative regulation of sclerostin (a WNT antagonist) after binding PTGER2. In immunohistochemistry, PTGER2 has membranous positivity in kidney vasculature and on granulosa cells of the ovary. It is also found in the respiratory epithelium of the lung, cutaneous eccrine glands, the gastric pit epithelium, fallopian tubes, as well as smooth muscle and endothelium in the penile corpora cavernosa.
