ELISA Capture: Useful as a capture antibody in a sandwich ELISA for quantifying mouse or human IL-5 protein levels.5-7 Purified antibody should be paired with biotinylated antibody (Cat. Immunofluorescence/. Flow Cytometry: Useful for intracytoplasmic staining and flow cytometric analysis to identify and enumerate IL-5-positive cells within mixed cell populations.8 Recombinant mouse IL-5 or Rat IgG1 should be used as a specificity control. Western Blot: The purified antibody is also useful for Western blot applications. For Western blotting, a concentration of 1-5 ug/ml (in conjunction with AP-labeled Goat Anti-Rat-Ig) has been found to enable detection of 100 ng/lane of recombinant mouse IL-5 under reducing conditions. Neutralization: The LE/AF form can be used for neutralizing mouse IL-5 bioactivity. A suitable LE/AF Rat IgG1 should be used as an isotype control. The applications listed have been tested for the unmodified form of this product. Other forms have not been tested.

IL5 is a cytokine that acts as a growth and differentiation factor for both B cells and eosinophils. The encoded cytokine plays a major role in the regulation of eosinophil formation, maturation, recruitment and survival. The increased production of this cytokine may be related to pathogenesis of eosinophil-dependent inflammatory diseases.
