Tested in immunoelectrophoresis and double radial immunodiffusion against normal human serum, a single precipitin line is obtained and giving a reaction of full identity with the purified immunogen. The antiserum is also reacting with fragments bearing common determinants: C3, C3b, C3bi. The product does not react with any other proteins component of human serum or plasma. In supernatants of sera containing 10% polyethyleneglycol only a reaction with C3d has been obtained. Cross-reactivity Inter-species cross-reactivity is a normal feature of antibodies to plasma proteins, since homologous proteins of different species frequently share antigenic determinants. Cross-reactivity of this antiserum has not been tested in detail.
