MBS-12 specifically detects AFP. This protein is one of the major serum proteins in the early life of mammals. AFP is an oncodevelopmental gene product which is expressed at high levels in the embryonic yolk sac and fetal liver. AFP production is reactivated in the adult during liver regeneration and hepatocarcinogenesis. Source: A BALB/c mouse was immunized with alphafetoprotein (AFP) and the isolated splenocytes were fused with NS1 cells.
