KCNK1/TWIK1 is a weakly inward rectifying potassium channel with twin P domains (pore forming regions) and 4 transmembrane domains. Its activity is up regulated indirectly by protein kinase C and down regulated indirectly by internal acidification. This channel is widely distributed with highest expression in the CNS, kidney, and heart.
