TPBG / 5T4

trophoblast glycoprotein

TPBG is a transmembrane glycoprotein first identified by a monoclonal antibody (mAb5TA) raised against human trophoblast glycoproteins. The protein is concentrated at microvillus projections of the plasma membrane and over expression in epithelial cells is associated with changes in morphology and increased motility. The cytoplasmic domain has been shown to influence actin/cadherin contacts. TPBG positive carcinomas have been shown to have an increased mortality rate.
