The noncatalytic domain is unique compared to known proteins, with a glycine-rich region, two PEST sequences, and a bipartite nuclear localization signal which is preceded by a stretch of ten consecutive acidic residues. SNF-1 related kinase has been implicated in hematopoietic cell proliferation or differentiation.
