SLC2A3 / GLUT3

solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter), member 3

SLC2a3 (Solute carrier family 2 (Facilitated glucose transporter), Member 3), also known as Glucose transporter 3 (GLUT3), is the third member of the Glucose Transporters family. The product of this appears to be important for tissues with high glucose demand, such as brain or skeletal muscle. Also, SLC2a3 may play a role in the transport of glucose from the placenta to the fetal circulation. Expression of the SLC2a3 was found to be associated with an increased malignancy grade of brain tumors and to be particularly related to the aberrant neovascularization in glioblastomas. Caution: The SLC2a3/GLUT3 gene has a pseudogene called SLC2A3P or GLUT3P1.

Gene Name: solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter), member 3
Family/Subfamily: Transporter , Sugar transporter
Synonyms: SLC2A3, Glucose transporter 3, GLUT-3, Glucose transporter GLUT3, Glucose transporter type 3, GLUT3
Target Sequences: NM_006931 NP_008862.1 P11169
