Sarcolipin / SLN

Sarcolipin

Sacropilin (SLN) is a 31 amino acid protein that copurifies with the fast twitch skeletal muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ ATPase (ATP2A1). It has been shown to inhibit the cardiac sarcoendopalsmic reticulum Ca2+ ATPase (SERCA2a) by direct binding and is super inhibitory if it binds through phospholamban. SLN is highly expressed in fast twitch muscle, with lower expression in slow twitch muscle and cardiac muscle. It is expressed in trace amounts in prostate and pancreas.
