CARP has been identified in vascular endothelial cells, cardiomyocytes, skeletal muscle and vascular smooth muscle cells and is a transcription factor related protein. CARP expression is increased in hypertrophy of the heart, in subcompartments of the muscle during normal morphogenesis or after denervation and in endothelial cells lining human atherosclerotic plaques.
