HMGN1 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 108 amino acids (1-100 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 11.7 kDa. HMGN1 protein is fused to an 8 amino acid His-Tag at C-terminus and purified by standard chromatography.

HMGN1 binds to the inner side of the nucleosomal DNA thus altering the interaction between the DNA and the histone octamer. HMGN1 has been shown to enhance transcription on chromatin templates but not on DNA templates suggesting that the association of HMGN1 with nucleosomes is part of the cellular process involved in the generation of transcriptionally active chromatin. During mitosis HMGN1 is phosphorylated in its chromatin binding domain.
