GPR89A (GPHR) is a voltage dependent anion channel required for acidification and functions of the Golgi apparatus. It may function in counter-ion conductance. In breast cancer, GPR89A may promote proliferation, and in both breast and prostate cancer GPR89A knockdown appears to reduce proliferative potential and induce cancer cell death. It is thus of interest as a potential inhibition therapy target.
