Description
G protein-coupled receptor 83 (Gpr83) is an orphan receptor belonging to the rhodopsin-like family A of GPCRs. It is widely expressed in brain regions regulating energy metabolism and control of body weight. Expression of Gpr83 in the hypothalamus is regulated in response to nutrient availability and is decreased in obese mice compared with lean mice. Gpr83 also regulates systemic metabolism through other ghrelin-independent mechanisms. It serves as a receptor for the neuropeptide PEN and colocalizes and interacts with the receptor for ghrelin.
