Specifications
Description
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH, beta subunit) is a glycoprotein hormone found in humans and other animals. The beta subunit (symbol FSHB) is unique to follicle stimulating hormone, while the alpha subunit (FSHA) is identical across chorionic gonadotropin, thyroid-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. FSH is synthesized and secreted by gonadotrophs of the anterior pituitary gland, and regulates the development, growth, pubertal maturation, and reproductive processes of the body. FSH is implicated in proliferation and metastases in endometrial, prostate and ovarian cancers. In immunohistochemistry of normal tissue, FSH has positive cytoplasmic staining in pituitary tissue and in the placenta.
