COUP-TFI, a NR2 Hepatocyte NF4-Like receptor, has been shown to regulate steroid/thyroid receptor pathways and is essential for neurogenesis, organogenesis, metabolism, homeostasis, and cell fate determination. COUP-TFI mediates the elaboration and patterning of anterior neural gene expression in vertebrates, possibly via effects on the retinoic acid signaling pathways. COUP-TFI has recently been shown to serve as an accessory factor for some ligand-bound nuclear receptors, suggesting that it may modulate, both negatively and positively, a wide range of hormonal responses. In mouse, COUP-TFI is required for proper fetal development, neocortical development, and for postnatal development.
