Neuropeptides B/W receptor 1 (NPBWR1, GPR7) interacts specifically with a number of opioid ligands. It is a receptor for neuropeptides B and W, which regulate fear and stress. It is upregulated in Schwann cells associated with neuropathic pain and is thought to inhibit inflammatory pain responses. It is further involved in neuroendocrine system regulation, food intake and the organization of other signals. NPBWR1 as a higher affinity for neuropeptide B. In immunohistochemistry, NPBWR1 has strong membranous positivity in the amygdala and stria terminalis in the brain, with some expression in the pituitary, liver, urinary bladder, skin, and on granulocytes.
