Specificity and Use
TNF Alpha antibody was raised against human rTNF-alpha. Splenocytes were fused with NS1 mouse myeloma cells.
J1D9 reacts with human Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha and not with mouse TNF-alpha. This antibody neutralizes Hu-rTNFa-mediated cytotoxicity of L929 cells and inhibits tumor growth in mice. It protects mice against toxicity of Hu-rTNFa.
TNF Alpha is a multifunctional proinflammatory cytokine that belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. This cytokine is mainly secreted by macrophages. It can bind to, and thus functions through its receptors TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR. This cytokine is involved in the regulation of a wide spectrum of biological processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism, and coagulation.
