SPN / CD43 antibody was raised against rat thymocyte membrane preparation.
3H1324 is against a monomorphic determinant expressed on rat thymocytes, T lymphocytes (but not B lymphocytes), plasma cells, polymorphs, stem cells and brain. The antigen recognized is a heavily glycosylated glycoprotein of Mw 95000 which has a high content of O-linked carbohydrate structures. On thymocytes this glycoprotein is the main target for binding of peanut lectin. This antibody is useful for distinguishing B and T lymphocytes and also for analysis of NK cells and stem cells.

Has an extended rodlike structure that could protrude above the glycocalyx of the cell and allow multiple glycan chains to be accessible for binding. Is a counter-receptor for SN/Siglec-1 (By similarity).
