PPIF / Cyclophilin F antibody was raised against synthetic peptide corresponding to N-terminal aa 42-54 (S42GNPLVYLDVDAN54C) of mature human CyPD (cyclophilin D). Percent identity by BLAST analysis: Human (100%); Gibbon, Monkey, Mouse, Bovine (85%).
Recognizes human, rat, hamster and dog CyPD. Detects a band of ~15kD by Western blot from rat liver and heart extract, and a ~37kD band from rat brain extract.

PPIases accelerate the folding of proteins. It catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides. Involved in regulation of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP). It is proposed that its association with the mPTP is masking a binding site for inhibiting inorganic phosphate (Pi) and promotes the open probability of the mPTP leading to apoptosis or necrosis; the requirement of the PPIase activity for this function is debated.
