Synaptic plasma membranes from bovine hippocampus.

Recognizes bovine galactocerebroside (GalC), sulfatide, psychosine and other galactolipids. Binds specifically with oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells. Cross-reacts with the sulfatide ester of GalC, but to a 16-fold lesser extent. No cross-reactivity with sphingosine, ceramide, mixed ganglioside or glucocerebroside. Species cross-reactivity: human, rat, rabbit,and mouse.

Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunohistochemistry and Immunocytochemistry. ELISA: With purified galactocerebrosides. Immunohistochemistry: 0.5-10 ug/ml on formalin-fixed frozen sections. Cannot be used on paraffin-embedded tissue sections since the antigen is denatured during embedding and paraffin removal. Immunocytochemistry: 0.5-10 ug/ml on 4% paraformaldehyde, acetic acid or ethanol-fixed cultured cells.

Supplied as a liquid in 0.02M PBS, pH 7.4, 0.25M sodium chloride, 0.1% sodium azide

May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid freeze-thaw cycles. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for up to 1 year.
