Specificity and Use
DSG2 / Desmoglein 2 antibody was raised against a-431 cell membranes.
Recognizes human desmoglein 2, a 165kD glycoprotein that is a core component of the desmosome cell-cell junction between epithelial cells. Desmoglein 2 is synthesized in the basal layers of the skin. Recognizes desmoglein-1 or desmoglein-3.
Western Blot: LS-C44527 detects a band of approximately 165kD in A-431 cell lysates.

Desmosomes are cell-cell junctions between epithelial, myocardial, and certain other cell types. This gene product is a calcium-binding transmembrane glycoprotein component of desmosomes in vertebrate epithelial cells. Currently, three desmoglein subfamily members have been identified and all are members of the cadherin cell adhesion molecule superfamily. These desmoglein gene family members are located in a cluster on chromosome 18.
