Specificity and Use
A synthetic17-aa peptide sequence near the C-terminus of human mature alpha defensin-5 (KLH coupled).
Recognizes human alpha defensin-5. No significant homology exists with other alpha-defensins.
Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Western Blot: 1-10 ug/ml using ECL. ELISA: 0.5-1 ug/ml. The applications listed have been tested for the unconjugated form of this product. Other forms have not been tested.

Defensins are a family of antimicrobial and cytotoxic peptides thought to be involved in host defense. They are abundant in the granules of neutrophils and also found in the epithelia of mucosal surfaces such as those of the intestine, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and vagina. Members of the defensin family are highly similar in protein sequence and distinguished by a conserved cysteine motif. Several of the alpha defensin genes appear to be clustered on chromosome 8.
