Specificity and Use
Human alpha defensin-1 (HDEFA1) was synthesized from 94aa precursor protein (mature peptide 65-94aa). Synthetic peptide 16aa sequence near the C-terminus of human mature alpha defensin-1 (KLH coupled).
Recognizes alpha defensin-1. Sequence Homology: Common to human HNP1-3. No sequence homology with human alpha-defensins 4-6 or monkey alpha defensins 1-3.
Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot.

Defensins are a family of antimicrobial and cytotoxic peptides thought to be involved in host defense. They are abundant in the granules of neutrophils and also found in the epithelia of mucosal surfaces such as those of the intestine, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and vagina. Members of the defensin family are highly similar in protein sequence and distinguished by a conserved cysteine motif.
