Specificity and Use
CD99 antibody was raised against human thymocytes.
Monoclonal antibody 3B2/TA8 recognizes CD99, an approximately 32 kD sialoglycoprotein expressed on many cell types, with particularly strong expression on Ewing[Character b4]s sarcoma and peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumors. Within the hematopoietic system, CD99 is expressed on virtually all cell types except granulocytes.
CD99 is a cell surface glycoprotein involved in leukocyte migration, T-cell adhesion, ganglioside GM1 and transmembrane protein transport, and T-cell death by a caspase-independent pathway. In addition, the encoded protein may have the ability to rearrange the actin cytoskeleton and may also act as an oncosuppressor in osteosarcoma. Cyclophilin A binds to CD99 and may act as a signaling regulator of CD99.
