Proteinase inhibitors are negative regulators of proteinase action in vivo. This gene encodes a multidomain serine proteinase inhibitor protein that contains 15 potential inhibitory domains. This gene may play a role in anti-inflammatory and/or antimicrobial protection of mucous epithelia. Two fragment polypeptides HF6478 and HF7665 have been identified in human blood filtrate.
