Foxp3 is a member of the forkhead/winged-helix family of transcriptional regulators. It is found in regulatory T cells, a specialized subpopulation of T cells that act to suppress activation of the immune system and thereby maintain immune system homeostasis and tolerance to self. Foxp3 is mutated in the disorder X-linked autoimmunity-allergic dysregulation syndrome (XLAAD/IPEX).
